The long-awaited reworking of the Steam library’s appearance has finally received a launch date for the OBT. If you have a Valve Store account, you can sign up for the open beta starting September 17th.

The update brings a new kind of landing page with a more modern design, quick access to game updates, recently played games, friends activities and your collections.

Valve will also make it much easier to see what your friends have been up to and what they are doing now. All relevant information will now be displayed on the home page.

This is a welcome update for Valve. Steam faces stiff competition in the PC market. Over the past year, the new Epic Games Store has signed a number of exclusive agreements with games, including Metro Exodus, Shenmue 3, and Oddworld: Soulstorm.

In addition, there is GOG Galaxy 2.0, which promises to bring all your PC games together in one client, thereby solving one of the biggest problems of today’s gamers.

As soon as the beta testing starts, we will continue to inform you about the innovations on Steam.
