Starting with RPCS3 version 0.0.9-9995-017ef5a9 Alpha, the PlayStation 3 console emulator supports changing the VBlank parameter to 120+ even for those games that were originally developed for stable operation at 30Hz.
This means that those projects that previously, physically could not function at a frame rate higher than 30, now can work at 60, or, in the case of the Skate 3, at 120 fps.
Below is a list of games that are compatible with VBlank 60Hz +:
- Skate 3 – previously the game worked with a maximum frame rate of 60 fps, now 120+
- Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune – previously the game worked at 30 fps only
- Asura’s Wrath – previously the game worked at 30 fps only
- wipEout HD – previously the game worked at 30 fps only
- ModNation Racers – previously the game worked at 30 fps only
- Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch – previously the game worked at 30 fps only
- Silent Hill Downpour – previously the game worked at 30 fps only
- Yakuza Ishin! – previously the game worked at 30 fps only
- Heavenly Sword – previously the game worked at 30 fps only
It should be understood that the “VBlank” parameter itself will not raise your frame rate if your hardware is not capable of playing some game with a frame rate higher than 30. For example, the video below was recorded on the following configurations:
- Core i7-8700K@5000MHz – Yakuza Ishin. DD by MsLow
- Core i5-6600 – Silent Hill Downpour, Asura Wrath, Majin, and the Forsaken Kingdom by Yahfz
- Core i9-9900KS – Uncharted by Aphelion
- Core i7-8700K@4900MHz – Skate 3, WipEout HD, Heavenly Sword by Asinine
- Ryzen 7 3700x – Modnation and Ni no Kuni
Also, recall that the last stable release of RPCS3 has not weakly increased performance in some projects. So, if, for some reason, your PC was not able to accept the emulation of your favorite game, it’s time to double-check it.
