According to rumors from the Eurasian Economic Commission, NVIDIA is preparing an updated GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card with 8 gigabytes of GDDR6 video memory.

This report was published by our colleagues from PCGamesN. According to him, at least three models await us, and this is just from ASUS:

  • ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce RTX 2060 EVO Gaming 8 GB
  • ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce RTX 2060 EVO Gaming 8 GB
  • ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce RTX 2060 EVO Gaming Advanced 8 GB

Apparently, based on the names described above, NVIDIA will not give the updated video card any specific designation, as it was with the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER, which, by the way, also received 8GB of video memory.

According to rumors, the core configuration will not change and will remain the same as in the 6GB versions of the RTX 2060.

So, why did NVIDIA decide to bring an updated version of the RTX 2060 to the end of the 2000 series lifecycle? There are a couple of viable options here:

The first, and in our opinion the main one, is to unload the stock of mainstream chips and free up space for upcoming products. The second option is very unlikely – this is the recent release of the Radeon RX 5600 XT, which, like the original RTX 2060, has 6GB of video memory. By bringing the RTX 2060 to market with 8GB of memory, NVIDIA could seriously hit the position of a recently released competitor’s card.

But this, of course, is speculation, and most likely have nothing to do with the real state of affairs.

If the rumors about the 8GB version of the RTX 2060 are confirmed, then in the near future we will have a lot of leaks on video cards from the other vendors.
