Just yesterday, colleagues from the Lab501 website published a review of the new flagship for the LGA 2066 Intel Core i9-10980XE platform. Unfortunately, in this material they did not compare the new product with the previous top Core i9-9980XE, however, indirectly, the results obtained can be compared with those obtained earlier on Core i9-9980XE, and they are not impressive.

According to Intel specs, Core i9-10980XE will have the same 18 cores, 36 threads as Core i9-9980XE. They will differ from the old one, the new processor will only have clock frequencies: Turbo Boost 4800 MHz versus 4400 MHz (the base frequency will remain at the same level of 3000 MHz). The 165-watt TDP and LGA2066 connector will remain the same.

In fact, we have before us a slightly overclocked Core i9-9980XE, which has a few extra PCI-e lanes added to it.

The reasons for the decrease in the performance of the new product can be different: from hardware patches from recently discovered vulnerabilities to a more severe thermal package.

Also, the reason may well be a raw BIOS version for the test motherboard. In any case, we suggest to you familiarize yourself with a couple of tests:

If we compare Intel Core i9-10980XE with the results obtained in advance on Core i9-9980XE, then the new product will indeed be slightly slower: the 10980XE scored 8563 points and the 9980XE gains about 8800. But, as I wrote above, there may be logical explanations for this.

Guys from Lab501 also ran some gaming tests. You can find a full review and test on their website at this link.
