Quantic Dream founder and CEO David Cage was interviewed by Gamespot in San Diego at Comic-Con 2019.

Maitre stated that ray tracing technology will be of great importance in graphics, as lighting will be given much more attention than, for example, polygons or textures. This indirectly confirms that the next Quantic Dream game will support ray tracing.

I think this is the key thing. Ray tracing. It can be interesting to improve reflections, lighting, and shadows. And I think this is a “big deal”.

I know people are talking about 8K now and blah blah blah. I don’t think this is what is needed now. I would rather focus on lighting. Lighting, lighting, lighting.

David Cage also said that he strives not only to develop independently, but also to publish games from other studios.

Quantic Dream, which recently sold a minority stake to NetEase, is now working on several projects at the same time.

For 12 long years we worked exclusively for Sony, it was fantastic and we really enjoyed working with them and we had a lot of creative freedom. The freedom to make the games we wanted to make – which was absolutely amazing.

But after 12 years of working together, we felt that the time had come, perhaps, to explore different directions and do different things. We also wanted to become publishers and really work on our project, maybe work on more than one project at a time.

Historically, Quantic Dream has taken a long time to develop its games.

Five years passed between Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain, three between Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls, then another five years before Detroit: Become Human was released last year on PlayStation 4.

It follows that it may take quite a while before we can see their new project, or perhaps even projects.
