AMD yesterday announced the latest budget 7nm graphics solutions based on its RDNA architecture. In the near future, the company will release three different versions of video cards at once. The basis for each of the cards presented below will be the already known Navi 14 GPU:

  • Radeon RX 5500 XT
  • Radeon RX 5500
  • Radeon RX 5500M.

For some reason, in its materials the company compares the GPU RX 5500 with the RX 480, and not, for example, with the most popular RX570, or at least with the RX470.

So, in comparison with Radeon RX 480, the fresh graphics processor shows superiority not only in terms of power consumption but also in die area – 1.6 and 1.7 times, respectively. In addition, according to AMD itself, the RX 5500 graphics card will be 12% faster than Radeon RX 480 in full HD resolution.

Reference card renders:

AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT and Radeon RX 5500 Specifications:

The Radeon RX 5500 XT graphics card is equipped with 1408 stream processors (22 compute units) and this is slightly less than reported in many leaks (24 units, which gives 1536 stream processors).

The RX 5500 XT chip operates at a “gaming” frequency of 1717MHz, and the maximum clock is set at 1845MHz. The card will be equipped with a 128-bit interface and 8GB of 14Gb/s GDDR6 video memory, with a bandwidth of about 224GB/s.

It is extremely unusual, but the younger model AMD Radeon RX 5500 will have the same core configuration as its older sister. Literally the same, even the GPU frequencies will not differ. However, AMD decided to limit the RX 5500 at the video memory level and its volume will be “only” 4GB.

Both versions have a TDP of 110 watts and AMD recommends manufacturers install one 8-pin connector for additional power.

Performance

AMD also conducted its own tests of the Radeon RX 5500. Compared to the GeForce GTX 1650, the new product looks extremely impressive.

Nevertheless, it is necessary to wait for tests from independent sources and then make final conclusions.

To spur buying power for new graphics cards, you can get Borderlands 3 or Ghost Recon: Breakpoint in your library as a gift.

AMD also showed how the new product performs in these games:

Here, Radeon RX 5500 has a confident victory not only over the GTX 1650 but also over the RX 480. Moreover, if in Gears 5 and Borderlands 3 FPS is already at a sufficient level, then in Ghost Recon: Breakpoint only the new product provides the coveted 60 frames per second!

Judging by the available information, there will be no reference samples, and one of these days AMD’s partner manufacturers should present their own versions of the Radeon RX 5500XT and RX 5500.
