AMD has officially confirmed that the ultimate 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X processor and high-performance Ryzen Threadripper 3000 coming this November.
The first thing I would like to tell you about – the rumors that have appeared about the division of AMD processors Threadripper 3rd generation into chips for enthusiasts and for workstations.
Intel is famous for this clear division. It has both Core i9 processors for enthusiasts and Xeon processors for workstations, all on a common LGA2066 platform (formerly LGA2011). AMD has a similar platform only recently. And apparently, the company has not yet fully determined its development vector, having decided to experiment with the segmentation of high-performance processors.
So, judging by the leaks, only chips for enthusiasts and gamers are expected in November. According to rumors, they will contain up to 24 cores, 56 threads, and only in the next, 2020, CPUs with more than 32 cores will come out.
In addition, we also have bad news for potential buyers of the 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X monster for the mainstream AM4 platform.
Unfortunately the processor will not be released this month and its release is delayed until November. Below is an official comment from AMD on this:
And this statement contains the answer to the question “why not in September?” The demand for top Ryzen processors is really high. For example, the same Ryzen 9 3900X is still a very scarce commodity, which is why its price sometimes exceeds $700.
Hopefully, before the release of Ryzen Threadripper 3000 and Ryzen 9 3950X, AMD will be able to eliminate the lack of necessary crystals and provide the number of processors necessary for the market.
