WarCraft 3: Reforged's system requirements have surprised many, particularly the recommended AMD Ryzen 7 1700X, which seems excessive for an engine limited to just four threads.
While the minimum requirements are perfectly clear (the Intel Core i3-530 is practically equivalent to the AMD Phenom II X4 910), Blizzard's recommended CPU choices are a bit puzzling.
WarCraft 3: Reforged minimum system requirements:
OS: Windows 7 / Windows 8 / Windows 10 (64-bit);
Processor: Intel Core i3-530 or AMD Phenom II X4 910;
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 or AMD Radeon HD 5750;
RAM: 4GB;
Storage: 30GB.
WarCraft 3: Reforged recommended system requirements:
OS: Windows 10 (64-bit);
Processor: Intel Core i5-6400 or AMD Ryzen 7 1700X;
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 or AMD Radeon R9 280X;
RAM: 8GB;
Storage: 30GB.
To play the WarCraft 3 remaster at high settings, you'll need either a 4-core Core i5-6400 or an 8-core, 16-thread Ryzen 7 1700X.
And that's pretty damn strange.
Most likely, both StarCraft 2 and WarCraft 3: Reforged use the same engine, which is limited to just four threads. Given that, seeing a 16-thread AMD Ryzen 7 1700X in the recommended system requirements is quite baffling.
Still, we don't have long to wait. Independent performance benchmarks for the remastered strategy game will hit the web on January 29, clearly showing if these configurations are truly necessary for smooth gameplay at high graphics settings.
