Twitter account AntiDRM published a very intriguing post today. According to their information, Bethesda’s upcoming hit game Starfield may not have built-in Denuvo anti-piracy protection.

Separately, we would like to remind you that Denuvo anti-piracy protection primarily harms gamers who have purchased the game for their hard-earned money, rather than pirates who crack popular games on release. Often, the performance of a project with Denuvo built-in is much worse (freezes, crashes and reduced FPS) than without it.

According to available information, a dataminer analyzed Starfield files in Xbox GamePass PC and found that the exe file located there weighs only 90 MB, while similar files with built-in Denuvo occupy much more space on the drive: about 200-300 MB.

However, as many users were quick to point out under this post in the social network, there is nothing to rejoice about. Such a size of the executable file may indicate both a lack of protection and a banal placeholder. In other words, the game’s exe file may be replaced with a Denuvo-containing one on release.

Only one thing is certain: such a voracious protection will in no way benefit a game as large and ambitious as Starfield.
