Rumors: Intel to slash Skylake-X CPU prices by up to half
Intel is reportedly cutting prices on its Skylake-X processors, with some models dropping by as much as 50%. This move likely paves the way for the upcoming LGA2066 platform refresh.
If you or someone you know has been eyeing a Core i9 processor for the high-end LGA 2066 platform but hasn't pulled the trigger yet, you might want to hold off.
We recently reported that Cascade Lake-X chips would offer significantly more performance per dollar than Skylake-X. However, it seems Intel's generosity is just getting started.
Now, according to information obtained by Computerbase.de, the current Skylake-X lineup is also due for a price drop.

In some cases, prices could be slashed by nearly half. For instance, rumors suggest the Core i9-9980XE's price will plummet from $1979 to $1057.
Overall, the updated Skylake-X pricing aligns with the recently announced prices for the Core i9-10000 (Cascade Lake-X) lineup.
Clearly, Intel aims to clear out existing CPU stock before rolling out the LGA2066 platform refresh.
