Rumors suggest the Xbox Series X will feature a "Windows Mode" to play PC games from Steam and Epic Games Store, potentially giving Microsoft an edge over rivals.
An Italian website, Game Experience, reports that Microsoft's new console won't just offer backward compatibility with the Xbox One, but could also run PC games.
The source claims the new Xbox will include a "Windows Mode," letting gamers launch storefront apps like Steam and the Epic Games Store to play their purchased titles. It's currently unclear if Origin will be available in this mode, but considering EA and Microsoft's long-standing partnership, its inclusion on the new Xbox seems highly probable.
If these rumors prove true, Microsoft gains a significant advantage in the battle for consumer dollars against its direct competitor, Sony. However, it's important to remember that both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 will share largely identical hardware: a custom APU built on AMD Zen 2nd-gen processor cores and an AMD RDNA2-based graphics accelerator. In theory, this means Sony's console could also be capable of running PC games, just like Microsoft's.
