NVIDIA has cut the GeForce RTX 2060's price to $299, making ray tracing more accessible. The move comes as a direct response to AMD's Radeon RX 5600 XT launch.
NVIDIA's decision undoubtedly stems from the impending launch of AMD's recently unveiled Radeon RX 5600 XT graphics card.
With this price drop, the barrier to entry for ray-traced gaming drops even further. The GeForce RTX 2060, previously $349, will now be available for just $299. What's more, NVIDIA's board partners could soon introduce non-reference, slightly simplified GeForce RTX 2060 models at even lower prices, potentially reaching $250.
Notably, some retailers already list the EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 KO for $279. Unfortunately, this isn't the case in our region yet.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 is based on the NVIDIA Turing TU106 GPU, which features 1920 CUDA cores, 120 TMUs (texture mapping units), and 48 ROPs (render output units). It comes equipped with 6GB of high-speed GDDR6 memory clocked at 14GHz, delivering a theoretical bandwidth of 336 GB/s.
With this price reduction, the GeForce RTX 2060 will slightly edge out AMD's new offering on a price-to-performance basis. Theoretically, NVIDIA's card should perform either on par with the RX 5600 XT or slightly faster.
While the RTX 2060 costs $20 more than the RX 5600 XT (priced at $279 compared to the RTX 2060's new $299 tag), NVIDIA's card offers real-time ray tracing, a feature AMD's offering lacks.
Ultimately, we'll need to await official benchmarks of AMD's new card before drawing any definitive conclusions.
