DICE's next Battlefield game is slated for a late 2021 release, promising unprecedented scale and a true showcase of next-gen console power.
During the latest earnings call, Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson shared new details about the next Battlefield game: DICE is leading development as usual, and the project is slated for a fall 2021 release.
DICE is building the next Battlefield on an unprecedented scale. The horsepower of the new consoles allows our team to deliver a true next-gen vision for the franchise. We're already running internal playtests, and the development team is getting great feedback on the current build. If everything goes to plan, the next Battlefield will launch in November or December of 2021. But don't worry, we'll share more details in spring 2021.
While indirect, Wilson's comments seem to bolster earlier rumors of significantly larger multiplayer maps and a bump in player count to a highly anticipated 128 players.
Beyond praising the current internal build, Wilson shared a few more details with investors. For instance, the new Battlefield could have launched earlier, perhaps even this year. However, playtesting made it clear that DICE needed more time to polish the project. EA didn't hesitate to increase funding and grant its flagship studio the extra time needed to finish this next-gen Battlefield.
