Intel announced the release of its Xe discrete graphics cards in 2021. The gamer-focused Xe-HPG models will feature hardware ray tracing.
Yesterday, at its "Intel Architecture Day" event, the blue giant finally officially revealed its plans for developing and releasing discrete graphics cards. According to the information shared, the graphics adapters, dubbed "Xe," will deliver the necessary performance across virtually all market segments:
⤢ ВІДКРИТИXe-LP: Integrated graphics solutions;
Xe-HPG: Mainstream discrete solutions for the mid-range and high-end segments;
Xe-HP: Premium mainstream discrete solutions for enthusiasts and data centers;
Xe-HPC: Scalable discrete solutions for data centers;
Of this list, Xe-HPG is particularly interesting because these solutions will target gamers and enthusiasts. It's already known that hardware ray tracing support will be the main feature of the Xe-HPG lineup:
⤢ ВІДКРИТИSurprisingly, Intel itself won't handle the manufacturing of the Xe GPUs. The CPU giant decided to outsource this to one of its contractors, though it's currently unknown who that will be (Samsung or TSMC).
If the chipmaker's plans hold, Intel's first discrete graphics accelerator will launch as early as 2021.
