AMD unveils Radeon Pro 5500M and 5300M mobile GPUs for the 16-inch MacBook Pro. The 5500M boasts a full Navi 14 chip (24 CUs), while the 5300M packs 20 CUs.
New AMD RX 5500 graphics cards, based on the Navi 14 GPU, are expected soon. However, previous reports suggested that only 22 of the chip's 24 compute units would be active.
Still, the full GPU has found its home. AMD has officially confirmed that the new Apple MacBook Pro will feature either the Radeon Pro 5500M, built on a complete AMD Navi 14 chip with all 24 compute units (1536 stream processors), or the Radeon Pro 5300, which has 20 CUs.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИToday, AMD officially announced the Radeon Pro 5500M and Radeon Pro 5300M mobile GPUs for Apple's 16-inch MacBook Pro. As anticipated, the AMD Radeon Pro 5500M features 24 compute units and 8 GB of GDDR6 memory, while the Radeon Pro 5300M comes with 20 CUs and 4 GB of GDDR6. Both mobile GPUs are rated for a 50W TDP.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИThis isn't the first time AMD has done something like this; the RX 460 also had some compute units disabled. What's even more interesting is that its full Polaris 11 chip also found its exclusive home in a graphics card made for Apple.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИIt seems AMD's fortunes have turned around in almost every market segment, which is certainly good to see.
