To my deepest regret, this news contains more flies than ointments. After all, both brand new CPUs, the 12-core, 24-thread Ryzen 9 3900, and the 6-core, 6-thread Ryzen 5 3500X are intended only for the OEM market.

Yes, right away – right off the bat. You will not be able to go to stores (go to the website of an online store) and buy these processors in isolation from the system units.

Moreover, the latter (3500X) will be sold only in China. But, there is also relatively positive news. Ryzen 5 3500X can already be found on the AliExpress marketplace:

Yes, the price is still inadequate, but a few weeks after the release, it will creep to its official mark of $160.

Now to the official announcement.

Ryzen 9 3900 is actually a complete copy of Ryzen 9 3900X, with the exception of reduced clock speeds and reduced TDP.

  • Ryzen 9 3900X: 12 cores, 24 threads, base frequency 3600MHZ, turbo 4600MHz, 105 watts.
  • Ryzen 9 3900: 12 cores, 24 threads, base frequency 3100MHz, turbo4300MHz, 65 watts.

Ryzen 5 3500X processor is already more different from its six-core older brother, Ryzen 5 3600X. In addition to the reduced clock frequency, Ryzen 5 3500X has SMT disabled, making it a regular 6-core CPU.

  • Ryzen 5 3600X: 6 cores, 12 threads, base frequency 3800MHz, turbo 4400MHz, 65 watts.
  • Ryzen 5 3500X: 6 cores, 6 threads, base frequency 3600MHz, turbo4100MHz, 65 watts.

An extremely strange decision on the part of AMD to sell the 3500X exclusively in China. This processor could crush the Core i5 9400 in the budget segment and become a leader in it, and now, its destiny will remain nomadism from China to dealers.
