AMD bumped up Radeon RX 5600 XT clock speeds (specifically for the Sapphire PULSE) to better compete with the GeForce RTX 2060, delivering an 11% performance gain.
It seems AMD hasn't ignored the GeForce RTX 2060's recent price drop to $299. Many Radeon RX 5600 XT graphics cards will soon get a BIOS update with higher clock speeds.
VideoCardz reported yesterday that Sapphire, a key AMD partner, has already bumped up the clock speeds for its RX 5600 XT PULSE model:
⤢ ВІДКРИТИInitially, the Radeon RX 5600 XT PULSE featured a 1560 MHz game clock and a 1620 MHz boost clock. However, Sapphire's official site now lists 1615 MHz for game mode and 1750 MHz for max boost. Video memory frequency also jumped from 12 GHz to 14 GHz, boosting the RX 5600 XT's total bandwidth to 336 GB/s, putting it on par with the RTX 2060. This clock speed bump wasn't entirely painless, though; the RX 5600 XT PULSE's TDP increased from 150W to 160W.
But there's more. The Radeon RX 5600 XT PULSE, now with higher clock speeds, has already been benchmarked in 3DMark, offering a clear look at its new performance level:
⤢ ВІДКРИТИThe combined boost in GPU and GDDR6 video memory clock speeds delivered an 11% performance gain. That's a pretty good uplift, even with the minor increase in power consumption.
It's still unclear when this 'upgrade' will hit cards from other vendors. However, we can now confidently say that Sapphire's specific model will be a much more competitive option against the RTX 2060.
The Radeon RX 5600 XT is set to launch on January 21 with a $279 price tag.
