Leaked Geekbench benchmarks show Intel's upcoming Core i7-11700K outperforming its direct rival, the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X.
With Intel's 11th-gen Core (Rocket Lake) announcement just around the corner, tech leakers on Twitter and beyond are already scouring benchmark databases in search of unreleased CPUs.
Yesterday, thanks to our old friends Leakbench and TUM_APISAK, Geekbench benchmarks for the Intel Core i7-11700K (Rocket Lake) surfaced online. Running at 5 GHz, the new 8-core i7 managed to slightly edge out AMD's current 8-core champion, the Ryzen 7 5800X (Zen 3):
CPU model | Single-core | Multi-core | Performance difference (single-core) | Performance difference (multi-core) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Intel Core i7-11700K | 1810 | 11304 | 100% | 100% |
AMD Ryzen 9 5950X | 1672 | 16515 | 108% | 68% |
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X | 1663 | 10361 | 109% | 109% |
Intel Core i9-10900K | 1405 | 10967 | 129% | 103% |
Intel Core i7-10700K | 1349 | 8973 | 134% | 126% |
On top of a modest 9% lead over its AMD rival, the Core i7-11700K shows a massive 26% generational leap over the current 8-core Intel Core i7-10700K. Most impressively, it even edges out the 10-core flagship Core i9-10900K by 3%!
Still, we should take this with a grain of salt. Geekbench is a pretty specific benchmark, and while it's incredibly popular among overclockers, some enthusiasts have started questioning its accuracy lately. It's better to wait for more reliable, real-world leaks before drawing any final conclusions.
But even if the actual performance gains end up slightly lower, Intel's upcoming chips still look promising. The only real downer is the lack of any models with more than 8 cores. Either way, a 10-core Rocket Lake chip won't be coming to the LGA 1200 socket anytime soon.
