Early benchmarks for AMD's Ryzen 7000 (Zen 4) CPUs confirm their competitiveness. The new chips excel in productivity, but gaming gains are moderate. Your choice depends on your specific workload.
Our colleagues at TechPowerUp have already gotten their hands on all the new Ryzen 7000 series processors and conducted their own extensive performance study of the Zen 4 architecture across all popular games and benchmarks. Be sure to visit their site via this link to read the full article. In the meantime, let's take a look at what the new chips from the "red team" are capable of.
Initially, after the release of Intel's rather powerful 12th-gen Core chips, AMD wasn't left in the dust. While virtually all of the "red giant's" CPU products were, to some extent, inferior to Intel's current CPUs, AMD's gaming performance was better than ever. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D even proved too tough for the Core i9-12900K. Although the top-tier 12th-gen CPU often outperformed AMD's 8-core chip with 3D V-Cache, its advantage rarely exceeded 10%, and its cost was significantly higher.
And here, it must be said, AMD somewhat shot itself in the foot. According to numerous reviews of the Ryzen 7 7700X, the 16-thread newcomer only outperforms the 5800X3D by a mere 5-6% in games.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИHowever, in rendering and demanding computational tasks, the 7700X is capable of delivering a 40% performance increase over the 5800X3D.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИTherefore, the decision to upgrade an AM4 system to AM5 should be made very carefully, as it entirely depends on the specific tasks your PC handles.
If you're a well-funded enthusiast or your work is closely tied to 3D content creation or video processing, then you should definitely consider the Ryzen 9 7900X and Ryzen 9 7950X processors. The latter's performance, by the way, is exceptional, allowing the 16-core, 32-thread AMD processor to outperform the Core i9-12900K by up to 30% in content creation tasks.
Beyond traditional benchmarks, the folks at TechPowerUp also investigated Zen 4 chips' performance in game emulation using RPCS3.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИAccording to the data, the Ryzen 7 7700X processor slightly lags behind the Core i7-12700K, yet it still outperforms the 5800X by 31%. It's also worth noting that buying more expensive CPUs like the Ryzen 9 7900X or 7950X for emulating your favorite PlayStation 3 games won't yield any benefits. In fact, even the Ryzen 5 7600X can handle this task, as its speed is 16% higher than the Core i5-12600!
