Electronic Arts is set to replace its Origin service with EA Desktop soon. The new app promises faster downloads, easier game access, and enhanced social features.
It looks like Electronic Arts is rebranding its game purchasing and download service, Origin. The new application, dubbed "EA Desktop," is set to begin beta testing very soon.
An EA representative stated that this new version of the service will feature faster game downloads and updates, simpler access to projects from its owned studios, and the ability to communicate with friends across various platforms.
Unsurprisingly, gamers will also use the EA Desktop app to access subscriptions like the recently rebranded EA Play ($5 per month) and EA Play Pro ($15 per month).
But that's not all. In an interview with GamesBeat, EA's VP Michael Blank stated:
We've unveiled some of what we're going to do next, but not everything.
This suggests that the rebranding and overhaul of the old Origin platform is just the beginning of a larger update to EA's services, and something truly interesting and exciting might be next.
