Google has officially canceled its annual I/O developer conference. The event, which focuses on Google's open technologies and services, was called off due to the growing threat of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
Google has already notified partners that anyone who applied back in January will receive refunds for their tickets and associated travel expenses.
Due to concerns around the coronavirus (COVID-19) and in accordance with WHO and other health authority recommendations, we have decided to cancel the physical Google I/O event at Shoreline Amphitheatre.
Given that many companies had already thrown in the towel and canceled their events long before Google, the search giant's decision is entirely understandable. Honestly, no other outcome was truly expected.
Still, Google is already looking for ways to adapt, and judging by their statements, they still plan to hold the I/O conference sometime this year.
