American overclocker mllrkllr88 sets a series of records with Core i9 9960X

American overclocker mllrkllr88 broke the usual weekend slump, setting multiple records with the Core i9 9960X. Weekends are typically quiet for tech news and enthusiast achievements, but mllrkllr88 changed that.

Saturdays and Sundays are usually barren days for news. You rarely see announcements from companies, or new records from enthusiasts. But American overclocker mllrkllr88 decided to break that depressing tradition, setting several records with Intel's sixteen-core Core i9 9960X, both in specific benchmarks and overall categories.

The first achievement is a gold medal for the Core i9 9960X in the CINEBENCH - R15 discipline, a result that also tops the charts for ALL sixteen-core CPUs! This is an astounding feat, especially with the current fierce competition in this category.

mllrkllr88's second record is similar: a first-place finish in GEEKBENCH3 for both the Core i9 9960X model category and all sixteen-core CPUs. What's more, the overclocker cracked the top 16 worldwide across all processors, regardless of core/thread count.

Rounding out the impressive streak are identical first-place finishes in the Core i9 9960X model category and among all sixteen-core CPUs in the WPRIME - 1024M benchmark.

The American enthusiast didn't detail many of the components in his "champion" test rig, but some screenshots allowed us to piece together a reasonably clear list:

The Core i9 9960X CPU, installed in an ASRock X299 OC Formula motherboard, was pushed to a maximum of 5972 MHz and cooled with liquid nitrogen. It was accompanied by TEAMGROUP XTREEM DARK RAM, operating at an effective frequency of up to 3824 MHz.

The graphics card used in this system remains unclear, though judging by the benchmarks, I'd venture to guess it was a placeholder GPU on the level of a GT 730 or R5 230.

The sixteen-core CPU category is currently facing a slight lull, which, hopefully, will soon be shaken up by the upcoming September release of the Ryzen 9 3950X.
