AMD is gearing up to launch new Ryzen Threadripper processors: the 3960X, 3970X, and 3990X. Some models are slated for a November 5 announcement, with the 3990X arriving in early 2020. The TRX40 chipset is also expected.
Citing its own authoritative sources, videocardz.com has published a list of unannounced third-gen Ryzen Threadripper processors:
⤢ ВІДКРИТИTwo of the three CPUs are indeed set for a November 5 announcement, though the embargo on performance and frequency details won't lift until November 19.
The last chip, the Ryzen Threadripper 3990X, isn't expected until early 2020. This delay isn't surprising, given that AMD is currently struggling to produce enough dies for its 12-core Ryzen 9 3900X and 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X. Considering that, the postponement of a potential 64-core behemoth makes perfect sense.
Rumors suggest the Ryzen Threadripper 3990X will feature 64 cores and 128 threads. Its sibling, the 3970X, is rumored to pack 32 cores and 64 threads, while the 3960X will reportedly offer 24 cores and 48 threads.
It's important to remember these are just rumors, and highly optimistic ones at that. For instance, WccfTech reports that a 48-core, 96-thread Ryzen Threadripper 3970X is also in the works.
Right now, that's incredibly hard to believe, especially considering the current scarcity of 7nm processor dies.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИBeyond the CPUs, AMD is also expected to unveil the TRX40 chipset for its updated platform on November 5. This should kick off a wave of motherboard announcements from AMD's manufacturing partners. However, according to videocardz.com's sources, these motherboards are already good to go and will hit retail shelves on November 19 without any delays.
This information is based on confidential documents we received from our AMD source. While we can't guarantee these dates are still current, we can confirm they were accurate just a few weeks ago.
