AMD Zen 5 development is in full swing! While Zen 2 just launched and Zen 3 is coming, AMD is already working on Zen 5, possibly skipping Zen 4. New CPUs expected by 2024.
Less than a week after the release of the highly successful 7nm Zen 2 architecture, rumors about its successors began to surface.
It's no secret that Zen 3 development is actively underway. It is known to power processors released after 2019.
Since April this year, it's known that AMD will skip Zen 4 and proceed directly to Zen 5 development. There could be many reasons: from unsatisfactory per-core performance, to high power consumption and/or issues during chip manufacturing.
Development of different Zen architecture versions runs in parallel. This, by the way, could explain issues with launching Destiny 2 and some Linux versions with Zen 2 at launch. A new AGESA microcode version fixing these annoying shortcomings is expected by the end of July. However, it's worth noting that this wasn't observed with previous processors based on Zen and Zen+ architectures.
Nevertheless. According to the profile of one of AMD's leading architects, David Suggs, work on Zen 5 is already underway.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИAccording to David's profile, he was involved in Zen 2, and now it's known he's also working on the future Zen 5.
Presumably, Zen 5 cores will be manufactured using a 5nm process and are expected to be released closer to 2024.
