AMD announces new budget 7nm Radeon RX 5500 XT and RX 5500 graphics cards (Navi 14 GPU, RDNA), promising better performance and energy efficiency.
Yesterday, AMD announced its latest budget 7nm graphics solutions, built on the RDNA architecture. The company will soon release three distinct graphics card versions, all powered by the familiar Navi 14 GPU:
Radeon RX 5500 XT
Radeon RX 5500
Radeon RX 5500M.

⤢ ВІДКРИТИFor some reason, AMD's marketing materials specifically compare the RX 5500 GPU to the RX 480, rather than the immensely popular RX 570, or even the RX 470.
Compared to the Radeon RX 480, the new GPU offers advantages in both power consumption and die area, by factors of 1.6 and 1.7 respectively. Furthermore, AMD claims the RX 5500 graphics card will be 12% faster than the Radeon RX 480 at Full HD resolution.

⤢ ВІДКРИТИThe Radeon RX 5500 XT graphics card features 1408 stream processors (22 compute units), which is slightly less than the 24 units (1536 stream processors) reported in numerous leaks.
The RX 5500 XT chip operates at a 1717 MHz "game clock" and a maximum boost clock of 1845 MHz. The card will feature a 128-bit interface and 8GB of 14 Gbps GDDR6 video memory, providing approximately 224 GB/s of bandwidth.
Unusually, the junior AMD Radeon RX 5500 model features the exact same core configuration and GPU frequencies as its older sibling. However, AMD decided to limit the RX 5500 to "just" 4GB of video memory.
Both versions have a 110W TDP, and AMD recommends manufacturers include a single 8-pin connector for auxiliary power.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИAMD also conducted its own Radeon RX 5500 benchmarks. Compared to the GeForce GTX 1650, the new card looks incredibly impressive.

To sweeten the deal, new graphics card purchases come with a free copy of either Borderlands 3 or Ghost Recon: Breakpoint for your game library.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИAMD also showcased the new card's performance in these games:
⤢ ВІДКРИТИHere, the Radeon RX 5500 comfortably outperforms not only the GTX 1650 but also the RX 480. While FPS in Gears 5 and Borderlands 3 is already adequate, only the new card delivers a solid 60 frames per second in Ghost Recon: Breakpoint!
Based on the available information, there won't be any reference models. AMD's partner manufacturers are expected to unveil their custom Radeon RX 5500 XT and RX 5500 versions in the coming days.
