ASMedia will begin producing AMD B550 and A520 chipsets in Q1 2020, with motherboards expected by summer. These boards will enable affordable yet powerful PC builds.
According to a report from Chinese tech outlet ChinaTimes, production of AMD's budget B550 and A520 chipsets is set to kick off in Q1 2020.
This report also confirms that ASMedia, not AMD, will handle manufacturing for these new budget chipsets, unlike the flagship X570.
Given the production timeline, the first B550 and A520 motherboards likely won't appear until June or July 2020. This announcement could, and probably will, align with Computex 2020.
Paired with 7nm Renoir APUs, the B550 and A520 chipsets will enable powerful yet affordable configurations without needing a discrete GPU.
Further rumors suggest production for the next-gen flagship X670 chipset will begin in the second half of 2020.
Finally, online whispers claim that unlike the current 500 series (where only X570 supports PCIe 4.0), the entire upcoming 600 series of chipsets will offer full PCIe 4.0 support.
