Core 2 Quad Q8300: 5 Records on LGA 775 by TerraRaptor

Russian overclocker TerraRaptor recently turned his attention to the budget quad-core Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300. On July 21st, he smashed five records with the chip.

First, let's look at its 13th-place finish in the Core 2 Quad Q8300 frequency rankings. This is quite significant because the chip's relatively low multiplier and high front-side bus (FSB) frequency make it a challenge to overclock. Despite these hurdles, TerraRaptor pushed the Core 2 Quad Q8300 to a respectable 4062MHz:

It's worth noting that TerraRaptor deactivated three of the processor's four cores during this overclock, which should have theoretically simplified the process. Given his past achievements, I'd also assume he used the same phase-change cooling system for this chip.

For the more demanding benchmarks listed below, the CPU frequency naturally ran a bit lower. This isn't surprising, as TerraRaptor had to enable all four cores for most of them.

Let's dive into the relatively popular, often paired Geekbench3 - Single Core and Geekbench3 - Multi Core benchmarks. The Core 2 Quad Q8300 ran at 3937MHz for these tests, achieving 2382 points in single-core and 8215 points in multi-core:

Next up are the equally common wPrime - 32m and wPrime - 1024m benchmarks. For wPrime - 32m, the chip hit 3997MHz and completed the test in 8 seconds and 734 milliseconds:

In the more demanding wPrime - 1024m, the CPU frequency dropped to 3900MHz, resulting in a time of 4 minutes, 38 seconds, and 733 milliseconds:

Finally, the overclocked Core 2 Quad Q8300 faced the SuperPi - 32M challenge. Here, the chip ran at its highest benchmark frequency of 4009MHz, completing the test in 11 minutes and 266 milliseconds. As SuperPi is a single-threaded test, TerraRaptor disabled three of the processor's four cores:
