Sony has confirmed that its new PlayStation 5 will feature backward compatibility with both digital and physical PlayStation 4 games. The Japanese giant claims the PS5 will support most PS4 titles, but it's unclear if this support will be available at launch or if gamers will have to wait.
Sony also revealed that many existing PlayStation 4 titles will get slightly higher resolutions and improved frame rates on PlayStation 5. However, the company didn't specify if this applies only to first-party exclusives or if multi-platform games will also receive these enhanced versions.
Finally, Sony remains silent on PS5's backward compatibility with older generations like PS1, PS2, and PS3. While it's generally understood that some PS3 games already exist as remasters on PS4, it's highly probable these will also run on PS5.
