NVIDIA has introduced its new GeForce RTX 3090, RTX 3080, and RTX 3070 graphics cards, built on the Ampere architecture. Dive into their specs, performance, and pricing.
As you probably already know, at yesterday's "GeForce online event," NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang personally unveiled three new GeForce RTX 3000 series graphics cards based on the "Ampere" architecture: the GeForce RTX 3090, RTX 3080, and RTX 3070.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИBut let's start with the most surprising — and perhaps bewildering — moment of the presentation: the positioning and performance of the "simplest" of the new cards.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИAbsolutely nobody expected CEO Huang to release an ultra-affordable equivalent to the current flagship RTX 2080 Ti. Yet, with the words "it's time to upgrade from Pascal graphics cards (GTX 1000 series)," the "green giant's" chief unveiled the relatively accessible GeForce RTX 3070.
This product will serve as a replacement for the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti (in terms of overall performance), all while boasting half its official price tag. The GeForce RTX 3070 features 8 GB of modern GDDR6 memory operating at an effective clock speed of 16000 MHz. The new card's GPU packs a substantial 5888 CUDA cores, functioning at up to 1730 MHz. The RTX 3070's TDP hovers around 220 watts.
The GeForce RTX 3070, a theoretical RTX 2080 Ti equivalent, is priced at $499, with a release slated for October.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИNext up is the GeForce RTX 3080, the direct successor to the RTX 2080. Jensen Huang claims it delivers double the performance of its predecessor. This graphics card utilizes the flagship GA102 GPU, albeit in a somewhat cut-down configuration, as expected. The RTX 3080 features a graphics processor with 8704 CUDA cores operating at up to 1710 MHz. Its GPU comes with 10 GB of advanced, ultra-fast GDDR6X video memory clocked at a staggering effective frequency of 19000 MHz. However, the RTX 3080's power consumption isn't as favorable: this RTX 2080 replacement draws up to 320 watts in its base configuration, which is nearly 100 watts more than the RTX 2080 (225 watts).
The official price for the GeForce RTX 3080 is set at $699, with a release date of September 17.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИFinally, the card everyone waited for, but few will actually buy: the flagship of the RTX 3000 lineup, the GeForce RTX 3090. This graphics adapter boasts impressive specs: a massive 24GB of GDDR6X video memory (wild by gaming graphics card standards), the full GA102 GPU configuration with 10496 CUDA cores operating at a maximum clock speed of 1700 MHz, and a power consumption of 350 watts.
If the new "green" flagship's specs impress you, its price might shock you even more: the new card will retail for no less than $1499! Still, it's worth noting that, objectively, the GeForce RTX 3090 is truly an ultimate solution for gaming and 4K/8K content creation right now.
What's more, NVIDIA itself claims the GeForce RTX 3090 is "up to 50% faster" than the Titan RTX.
The new "graphics king" is scheduled for release on September 24.
Samsung is responsible for manufacturing the RTX 3000 series GPUs, which means the new NVIDIA GA102 and GA104 chips are built on an efficient and advanced 8nm process. Additionally, each of the unveiled graphics cards supports the cutting-edge PCI-E 4.0 interface.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИHere's a table with the specifications of the RTX 3000 series graphics cards:

According to NVIDIA's own internal benchmarks, the GeForce RTX 3070 and GeForce RTX 3080 graphics cards demonstrate absolute dominance over their predecessors, the RTX 2070S and RTX 2080S, in titles like Borderlands 3, Doom Eternal, Red Dead Redemption 2, Control (RTX ON), Minecraft (RTX ON), and Wolfenstein Youngblood (RTX ON). This is supported by the following graph:
