Rumors suggest NVIDIA is preparing an updated GeForce RTX 2060 with 8GB of VRAM. The goal: clear inventory or undercut competitors.
Once again, the Eurasian Economic Commission is the source of rumors that NVIDIA is preparing an updated GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card with 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИOur colleagues at PCGamesN published this report, revealing at least three models from ASUS alone:
ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce RTX 2060 EVO Gaming 8 GB
ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce RTX 2060 EVO Gaming 8 GB
ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce RTX 2060 EVO Gaming Advanced 8 GB
Judging by these names, NVIDIA probably won't give the updated card a specific designation, unlike the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER, which also received 8GB of VRAM in its time.
If rumors are true, the core configuration won't change, remaining identical to the 6GB versions of the RTX 2060.
So why is NVIDIA releasing an updated RTX 2060 toward the end of the 2000 series' lifecycle? There are a few plausible reasons:
The first, and we think most likely, is to clear out existing inventory of mainstream chips and make room for future products. The second, though far less probable, involves the recent launch of the Radeon RX 5600 XT. Like the original RTX 2060, it features 6GB of VRAM. By introducing an 8GB RTX 2060, NVIDIA could significantly undercut its competitor's new card.
But these are, of course, just speculations, and probably have little to do with the actual situation.
If the rumors of an 8GB RTX 2060 prove true, we can expect a slew of leaks from other vendors regarding their cards very soon.
