Microsoft has confirmed DirectStorage support for Windows 10 (build 1909+). The technology promises faster game loading by enabling GPUs to directly access data.
Microsoft announced that the preview version of DirectStorage technology will be compatible with Windows 10. Users will need build 1909 or newer for this.
As a reminder, Microsoft's DirectStorage API is designed to significantly boost game loading speeds by reducing I/O requests between the CPU and storage device. Essentially, this means the GPU can directly access game assets stored on the drive, bypassing the central processor.

Notably, Xbox Series X|S consoles support DirectStorage out of the box, but the technology's exclusivity is now a thing of the past. Both Windows 11 and Windows 10 have already received preview versions of the new API.
Documentation and the DirectStorage SDK are already available to some developers who've signed an NDA, but Microsoft isn't stopping there and promises to soon broaden access to the new API.
