MediaTek has revealed the specs for its 8-core Dimensity 800 5G processor, targeting mid-range 5G smartphones. It promises to be cheaper than rivals.
CES 2020 continues to impress. Yesterday, Chinese mobile SoC developer MediaTek unveiled the specifications of its new Dimensity 800 5G processor.
This new chip targets mid-range smartphones, bringing 5G mobile network support to the segment.
The Dimensity 800 5G is an 8-core processor. The SoC's configuration features 4 powerful cores based on the relatively new ARM Cortex-A76 architecture, while the remaining 4 efficient cores use the simpler ARM Cortex-A55. For graphics acceleration, MediaTek has implemented the ARM Mali-G77 GPU.
Key competitors for the upcoming SoC include Qualcomm's Snapdragon 765G and HiSilicon's Kirin 990 5G. However, MediaTek's new offering promises to be significantly cheaper. Considering the Chinese developer's special conditions for domestic smartphone manufacturers, the Dimensity 800 5G is poised for major success.
