At CES 2020, AMD unveiled the 64-core Ryzen Threadripper 3990X processor. It features 128 threads, 288MB of cache, and costs $3990. It will be available starting February 7.
Just unveiled at CES 2020, AMD has officially introduced the ultimate 64-core, 128-thread Ryzen Threadripper 3990X processor for the high-end TRX40 platform.
Beyond an incredible core count (for the desktop segment, of course), the new CPU also boasts a significant 288MB of L3 cache.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИThe Threadripper 3990X will have a base clock of 2900MHz, with its maximum auto-overclock (boost clock) capable of reaching an incredible 4300MHz. It's currently unknown how many of the 64 cores can maintain such a high frequency, but even 2900MHz for this many cores and threads looks simply stunning.
What's more, AMD's own V-Ray benchmarks show their 64-core, 128-thread creation outperforming a pair of more expensive Xeon Platinum 8280 processors by up to 30%:
⤢ ВІДКРИТИWith such ultimate performance and significant specifications, the chip's power consumption will obviously be very high. AMD has set a 280-watt TDP for the 3990X. Keep that in mind if you decide to purchase this CPU.
The Ryzen Threadripper 3990X will be available for purchase starting February 7, 2020, with a price tag of $3990.
