Mainstream DDR5 is set to offer frequencies up to 8400 MHz, capacities up to 64 GB, and lower power consumption. It's expected to hit the market in 2021.
SK Hynix claims that DDR5, designed for mainstream platforms, will deliver a 50% boost in bandwidth over current DDR4 standards. However, it's important to note this comparison is against 2133 MHz DDR4. Top-tier DDR4 modules currently on the market will still outperform early DDR5 for a while. But by 2022, DDR5 frequencies will exceed 5000 MHz, surpassing any contemporary DDR4 implementation.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИBeyond the doubled frequency and increased bandwidth, the new DDR5 RAM standard will also reduce power consumption and boost the potential capacity of a single module to 64 GB.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИSK Hynix itself states that its DDR5 memory frequencies will start at 3200 MHz (which is already quite respectable and nearly matches top DDR4 modules) and eventually reach an impressive 8400 MHz.
Regarding capacity, SK Hynix has currently planned memory modules in 8, 16, 24, 32, and 64 GB configurations.
The market introduction of this new RAM type largely depends on CPU manufacturers. However, SK Hynix estimates the memory will hit the market by 2021 and capture about 43% of it by 2022.
