As you might have guessed from the name, the 'Joy Ride' update introduces drivable cars to the game. It's hard not to call out Epic Games for their glacial pace, especially since their main competitors have had drivable vehicles in their titles for quite some time. PUBG, for instance, even boasts motorcycles and snowmobiles. Still, this change should inject some much-needed life into Fortnite's stagnant gameplay.
Epic Games also didn't reinvent the wheel, implementing the basic battle royale vehicle mechanics: cars will run out of fuel, requiring players to refuel at the nearest gas station or by finding fuel canisters scattered across the island.
As a reminder, Fortnite will be compatible with next-gen consoles, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, at their respective launches. It's also set to receive an updated version running on Unreal Engine 5 in 2020.
