Japanese buyers snapped up AMD Ryzen 9 3950X processors even at $900 per chip

Japan is a technologically advanced nation whose residents consistently embrace and celebrate new tech. And what could be more exciting than AMD's fresh 16-core, 32-thread CPU for the mainstream platform?

Sales of the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X were scheduled to kick off on November 30th at every major retailer in Tokyo. However, the sheer number of potential buyers led to queues forming overnight. Since this is prohibited by law, enthusiastic fans were asked to return in the morning.

Ultimately, all CPU stock sold out almost instantly, with chip prices reaching 100,000 Japanese Yen ($913).

Japanese retailers have noted a significant surge in AMD processor sales. In fact, sources indicate that the 32-core Ryzen Threadripper 3970X, priced at 260,000 Japanese Yen ($2,370), is also selling quite well.
