Intel is preparing an 8-core mobile Tiger Lake H chip with powerful Xe graphics and 16 threads to take on AMD. Expected mid-2021.
Intel's VP Boyd Phelps shared the company's plans for developing and releasing 11th-gen mobile Core chips, specifically an 8-core processor based on the Willow Cove architecture.
Compared to current Intel architectures, Willow Cove cores will feature a larger 1.25MB L2 cache (up from 512KB) and a significantly increased 24MB L3 cache (24MB for the 8-core model, 12MB for the 4-core).
⤢ ВІДКРИТИIntel's VP didn't specify if the 8-core model will feature Hyper-Threading, enabling 16 simultaneous threads, or if we're looking at a pure 8-core design. However, considering the efficient 10nm process, powerful new Xe integrated graphics, and relatively high clock speeds, it's highly improbable Intel would pass up a chance to outmuscle AMD's top mobile offerings. Thus, it's very likely the 8-core Tiger Lake H chip will indeed support 16 threads.
Early leaks suggest Tiger Lake H chips will fit within a 35-45W TDP and appear in laptops by mid-2021.
