10th Gen Core X: First Overclockers' Records

10th-gen Core X processors only launched yesterday, but top overclockers are already pushing their limits, setting new records with these CPUs.

We'll start by looking at the scores posted on the flagship LGA 2066 processor, the Core i9-10980XE.

First up is Greek overclocker OGS. He chose the HWBOT x265 Benchmark - 4k discipline for his experiments, and it paid off. Running at 5652MHz, OGS secured first place for both the specific CPU model and among all 18-core CPUs.

Predictably, 2019 leaderboard champion, American overclocker Splave, was next to set records. He posted two results with the top-tier Core i9-10980XE processor.

First, the enthusiast claimed gold in both the model-specific and 18-core rankings of the GPUPI for CPU - 1B:

He then secured those same first-place spots in the model-specific and 18-core rankings for the Cinebench - R15 discipline:

For both records, Splave used an ASRock X299 OC Formula motherboard.

Now, let's look at records on the lower-tier chips.

Romanian enthusiast Alex@ro armed himself with a 14-core Core i9-10940X processor, taking first place in both the model-specific and 14-core rankings for the GPUPI for CPU - 1B discipline:

Alex@ro's test bench included an ASUS ROG Rampage VI Encore motherboard, four 8GB GALAX OC LAB RAM sticks, a GeForce GT 1030 graphics card, and a 1200-watt Seasonic power supply.

Finally, let's look at a couple of results for the cheapest entry in the refreshed LGA 2066 platform: the Core i9-10900X.

OGS also contributed to these records. In the first instance, the processor was overclocked to 5924MHz, earning the enthusiast first place in the Core i9-10900X model rankings and second among all 10-core CPUs:

The second attempt pushed it to 5960MHz, which secured the overclocker first place in both the model-specific and 10-core rankings:

In both instances, OGS used an ASUS ROG RAMPAGE VI EXTREME OMEGA motherboard.

It's clear these results will be broken soon. However, it's worth noting that the new processors managed to outperform their 9th-gen Core X predecessors, even though they're essentially the same CPUs.

This situation gives us hope that some established records from the past year can finally be broken on the refreshed LGA 2066 platform.
