First graphics card benchmarks for Cyberpunk 2077 are out

Our colleagues at Tom's Hardware Europe ran some early benchmarks of several graphics cards in the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077. Keep in mind that these are preliminary tests run without the crucial day-one patch, so retail performance might differ.

The benchmarked lineup includes the RX 5600 XT, RX 6800 XT, GTX 1060, RTX 2060, RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3080, and RTX 3090. Here is a quick look at the test rig they used:

Test rig:

• CPU - Intel Core i9-9900K

• Motherboard - MSI MEG Z390 Ace

• RAM - Corsair 2x16GB DDR4-3600 CL16

• SSD - XPG SX8200 Pro 2TB

• PSU - Seasonic Focus 850 Platinum

• Cooler - Corsair Hydro H150i Pro RGB

• Case - Phanteks Enthoo Pro M

Graphics cards:

• GeForce RTX 3090

• GeForce RTX 3080

• GeForce RTX 3060 Ti

• GeForce RTX 2060

• GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

• Radeon RX 6800 XT

• Radeon RX 5600 XT

Let's dive straight into the results.

At 1080p on medium settings, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT actually outperformed NVIDIA's flagship GeForce RTX 3090! However, the tables turn at 4K. There, the RX 6800 XT falls behind the RTX 3080, and the gap to the RTX 3090 becomes massive. Of course, the RX 6800 XT isn't meant to compete with the RTX 3090 on price—that fight is reserved for the upcoming RX 6900 XT.

At 4K Ultra, the overall stack remains virtually unchanged, but frame rates take a massive hit. You'll need at least an RTX 3080 to get playable performance at these settings.

Enabling ray tracing in Cyberpunk 2077 practically forces you to turn on DLSS. But even with DLSS enabled, ray tracing in CD Projekt RED's new RPG proves to be too demanding for most of the tested cards.
