Jim Ryan: PS5 sales will top 7.5 million in under five months, outpacing the PS4

Jim Ryan predicts PlayStation 5 sales will surpass 7.5 million units in its first five months, beating the launch pace of the PS4.

PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan expects PlayStation 5 sales to top 7.5 million units within five months of launch, outpacing the PS4's sales over the same period.

Ryan shared these projections with the Korean outlet Naver. He also doesn't rule out an even bigger success, believing Sony can sell far more PS5s in the current fiscal year (ending March 31, 2021) than it did PS4s during its own launch year.

Sony shipped 7.5 million PS4s by April 2014 and another 14.8 million by April 2015.

Granted, it's not a perfectly fair comparison. The PlayStation 4 launched in Europe ten days later than the PS5 (on November 29, 2013), and didn't reach Japan until February 22, 2014. Meanwhile, the PlayStation 5 is launching on November 10 and 19.
