Sony is reportedly planning to permanently shut down its digital stores for the PS3, PS Vita, and PSP this summer. An official announcement hasn't been made yet.
According to a report from TheGamer, Sony plans to shut down its digital stores for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation Portable this summer. Rumor has it the PS3 and PSP stores will officially close in July, with the PS Vita store following in August.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИWhat does this mean? At the very least, you'll no longer be able to buy digital games for these platforms. Beyond that, it's hard to predict: we don't know whether Sony will still let users download previously purchased games and patches, or if they'll cut off access entirely.
For now, this is still just a rumor, as Sony hasn't officially confirmed or denied anything, so take it with a grain of salt. However, TheGamer claims the company will go through with it and will likely announce the decision by the end of March.
If the rumor pans out, Sony will shut down the PS3 and PSP stores on July 2, followed by the PS Vita store on August 27. If you have any pending purchases, make sure to download everything you might need (games, patches, apps, etc.) before the planned shutdown!
