Ahead of the Xbox Series X/S launch, Xbox Game Studios is reporting a record-breaking 2020 with impressive growth across its games and studios.
Ahead of the Xbox Series X and S launch on November 10, Xbox marketing GM Aaron Greenberg shared some inside stats about Xbox Game Studios on the official Xbox Wire blog.
According to Greenberg, 2020 has been a "record-breaking year" for Xbox Game Studios. Microsoft's development teams launched several major titles and announced new projects. Greenberg also highlighted the acquisition of ZeniMax Media, which brought legendary studios like Bethesda Softworks and id Software into the fold.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИHere are some of the key highlights from the GM's blog post:
Xbox Game Studios has released 15 games so far this year (including 10 brand-new titles), with many more in development, setting a record for Xbox.
Xbox fans have racked up a combined 1.66 billion hours of playtime, another all-time record.
The latest entry in Microsoft's longest-running franchise, Microsoft Flight Simulator, earned a 92 Metascore on Metacritic, making it the highest-rated PC game of the year.
The highest-rated Xbox game this year is Ori and the Will of the Wisps, which holds an average score of 90 on Metacritic.
Obsidian's new title Grounded hit over a million players in record time, while Sea of Thieves has surpassed the 15 million player milestone.
Aside from winning Gamescom's Best RPG award and fan acclaim, Wasteland 3 scored an average of 86 on Metacritic.
At July's Xbox Games Showcase, we announced five new games in development at Xbox Game Studios.
Players of Microsoft Flight Simulator have already logged over 26 million flights and clocked more than a billion miles. That is 15 times more than the number of real-world flights taken daily in all of 2019, and enough to circle the Earth over 40,000 times.
Co-op fans flocked to Minecraft Dungeons, racking up over 6.9 billion multiplayer sessions in the past two months, with nearly two-thirds (4.4 billion) of them played in local co-op.
In Grounded , players have squashed over 500 million bugs. Don't worry, though: with 10 quintillion insects on Earth, that's only 0.000000000005% of the global population.
According to Greenberg, this is just the beginning. The brand-new Xbox Series X and S consoles arrive on November 10, accompanied by a wave of optimized titles. On top of new games, players will have access to a massive back catalog of thousands of older titles spanning previous Xbox generations.
We wish Microsoft and Xbox Game Studios continued success. After all, healthy competition works wonders for the industry.
