
The COVID-19 outbreak in South Korea has led to factory shutdowns at Samsung and SK Hynix. This could cause supply disruptions and increased memory prices.
Samsung Electronics recently confirmed its first COVID-19 case at its smartphone factory in Gumi, a city in southeastern South Korea. As a result, the tech giant decided to temporarily shut down the entire facility for quarantine.
On Thursday, another infection was confirmed at an SK Hynix facility in Incheon, a northern city. SK Hynix is a key supplier of RAM and solid-state memory for Apple. To prevent further spread, the company closed the affected facility for several weeks as a precautionary measure.
