AMD's RDNA2 architecture for Xbox Series X will support ray tracing and Variable Rate Shading (VRS), promising smoother 4K gameplay.
Microsoft's recent Xbox Series X announcement has revealed more details about AMD's next-gen RDNA2 architecture, the successor to the current RDNA.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИIt's been known for a while that Microsoft's upcoming console would use a custom AMD SoC with real-time ray tracing support. Redmond has already unveiled its development environment for ray tracing via the DirectX Raytracing (DXR) API. Naturally, the AMD RDNA2 architecture, central to this custom SoC, is therefore obligated to support ray tracing based on Microsoft's API.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИWhat's more, Microsoft itself stated that its console would feature VRS (Variable Rate Shading) support. This makes it highly probable that the next generation of RDNA architecture will also support VRS.
This clever approach will allow Redmond to deliver slightly smoother 4K gameplay with minimal effort.
