American overclocker Splave has pushed the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X to 6,057 MHz, setting a new 16-core record in Cinebench R15.
When new CPUs launch, American overclocker Splave usually takes a wait-and-see approach. He slowly explores the overclocking potential of the fresh chips, watches his peers' achievements, and eventually (anywhere from a week to a month later) posts practically unbeatable results.
That's exactly what happened today. The American got his hands on an exceptionally lucky sample of the new 16-core, 32-thread AMD Ryzen 9 5950X. After pushing it to 6057 MHz, he set a new 16-core record in the highly popular Cinebench - R15 benchmark:
The Ryzen 9 5950X was paired with a high-end ASRock X570 Aqua motherboard and a popular G.SKILL F4-3800C14-8GTZN RAM kit, consisting of two 8GB sticks.
The overclocking potential of Ryzen 5000 processors has increased significantly, jumping by 200–400 MHz on average compared to the Ryzen 3000 series. Furthermore, early testing suggests that the vast majority of Zen 3 chips can break the 6000 MHz barrier under liquid nitrogen.
