Overclockers Splave and safedisk have shattered world records using AMD's 64-core Ryzen Threadripper 3990X. Splave claimed an absolute top spot, while safedisk secured gold.
Korean enthusiast safedisk snagged gold in the 64-core and specific model categories, but American overclocker Splave went even further, setting an absolute world record among all processors, regardless of core or thread count!
For the Korean overclocker, the chip ran at 5056 MHz. This benchmark session resulted in two first-place finishes in the HWBOT x265 Benchmark - 4k discipline, achieving 95,531 frames per second:

Motherboard: ASUS ROG Zenith II Extreme Alpha
RAM: 4x 8GB G.SKILL OC World Cup 2019 modules with Samsung chips
Graphics card: AMD Radeon R7 340
PSU: Super Flower Leadex 1600-watt
SSD: Unknown Corsair model
The American enthusiast took a different approach. For his experiments, he chose the wPrime - 1024m discipline, which is relatively light for such multi-core monsters. By overclocking the Ryzen Threadripper 3990X to an impressive 5400 MHz, he claimed absolute first place across all categories:

⤢ ВІДКРИТИOnce again, Splave didn't list the components used for his record. We could only infer from screenshots that he used an ASRock TRX40 Taichi motherboard and G.SKILL RAM, model F4-3800C14-8GTZN (4x 8GB for a total of 32GB).
While it's still early to draw definitive conclusions from just a few results, it's already clear that AMD's delay in releasing the 64-core chip was for a good reason. The Ryzen Threadripper 3990X truly utilizes exceptionally successful and binned dies, so we can expect even more impressive results from new CPUs in the future.
