Sony shared a list of PS4 games that won't run on the PS5. The list includes just 10 titles, meaning almost the entire library will be backward compatible.
To be honest, PlayStation fans couldn't quite believe PS5 backward compatibility with the PS4 was actually happening until the very last moment. In the past, Sony repeatedly made it clear that running older games on next-gen hardware wasn't a priority. However, since the PS4 and PS5 share the same basic architecture, the Japanese giant finally gave fans what they wanted.
Still, as it turns out, not all PlayStation 4 games will run on the PlayStation 5. Sony has released a list of games that you can only play on the older console. Fortunately, losing these titles won't disappoint the vast majority of players:
DWVR;
Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One;
TT Isle of Man - Ride on the Edge 2;
Just Deal With It!;
Shadow Complex Remastered;
Robinson: The Journey;
We Sing;
Hitman Go: Definitive Edition;
Shadwen;
Joe's Diner.
Apparently, the rest of the PS4 library is fully ready for the PS5, though Sony warns that some games might still experience 'errors or unexpected behavior'.
So, how do you actually play your old PS4 games on the PS5? Sony has offered a couple of options:
Insert your PS4 game disc into the PS5. You might need to download an update. You'll need to keep the disc in the drive every time you want to play;
Install a digital copy of the PS4 game on your PS5 console.
In other words, you shouldn't run into any major backward compatibility issues.
