The RPCS3 emulator now lets you play Demon's Souls in 4K and 60fps. A new patch removes the 30fps cap, though minor issues with cutscenes remain.
RPCS3 developers have packed an incredible number of changes and improvements into the PlayStation 3 emulator over the past few weeks. It feels like just yesterday we were writing about the introduction of anti-aliasing support MSAA and the first boot of the iconic MGS4: GotP, and now the emulator's YouTube channel has posted a new video:

To celebrate these impressive results, the enthusiasts posted a short comment below the video:
Whatcookie has released a patch for Demon's Souls (DeS) that finally breaks the game's 30fps limit, allowing it to run at 60 or even 120 frames per second! However, there are still some known issues. For example, pre-rendered cutscenes will only display the first frame. This isn't a major problem, as DeS only features two such cutscenes. Regardless, playing at 60fps is a unique experience. 120fps isn't recommended until we resolve issues with character movement slowing down when colliding with geometry. Demon's Souls has an internal frame-duplication technology that kicks in if the game's performance isn't at its peak. Because of this, typical FPS counters become inaccurate; while the game might technically output 60 frames per second, some of those frames could be duplicates if your performance is too low. This makes verifying your true framerate somewhat tricky. It's not a bug.
To hit 3840x2160 at 60fps, they used a system with a Core i7 6700k and a GeForce GTX 1080. For 120fps at 1920x1080, a Core i7 8700k paired with a GeForce GTX 1070 was necessary.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИGiven the CPU requirements for reliably running games like Skate 3 (Ryzen 5 1600/Core i5 8400), the processor needed for 60fps Demon's Souls seems more than reasonable.
