Qualcomm introduced its new Snapdragon 720G, 662, and 460 mobile platforms, featuring Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, improved AI, and better power efficiency. No 5G support.
Qualcomm highlights that its new Snapdragon 720G, 662, and 460 chipsets support Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and dual-frequency GNSS for more precise positioning. They also boast improved power efficiency and enhanced AI features. However, none of these SoCs include 5G connectivity; Qualcomm believes 4G is enough for budget and mid-range devices.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИThe new Snapdragon 460 finally brings Kryo 240 cores to the 400-series. Until now, all of Qualcomm's budget SoCs relied on outdated ARM Cortex A53 cores. Qualcomm claims the new CPU cores deliver a 70% performance boost over the older cores found in the Snapdragon 450. The Snapdragon 460 itself features eight Kryo 240 cores clocked up to 2300MHz and an Adreno 610 GPU. Specs show the chip supports up to 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM at up to 1866MHz. Qualcomm also gave the new chip support for a single 25-megapixel camera or dual 16MP cameras.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИThe new 600-series chip gets four powerful and four efficiency-focused Kryo 260 cores, maxing out at 2000MHz. It integrates Adreno 610-level graphics and supports up to 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM at 1866MHz. The chip also supports a single camera module up to 48 megapixels.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИThe new 700-series chip is quite interesting: the Snapdragon 720G packs two fast Cortex-A76 cores at 2300MHz and six power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores at 1800MHz. It features the relatively powerful Adreno 618 GPU. Qualcomm has also given the Snapdragon 720G extensive video and photo capabilities, including support for 192-megapixel sensors and 4K video recording.
Shipments for the new processors are expected to begin by the end of 2020, so devices featuring them should theoretically launch by early to mid-2021.
