Greek overclocker OGS used an overclocked Ryzen 9 5950X and dual RTX 3090s to grab the top spot in 3DMark05.
An overclocked Ryzen 9 5950X is doing wonders. Just half an hour ago, we marveled at the stunning record by Greek overclocker OGS using three Radeon R9 290X graphics cards. Now, just minutes later, the enthusiast has posted a new milestone achieved with two flagship NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 cards.
You've probably already guessed that both records share a common denominator: AMD's overclocked 16-core monster. This is no surprise. As we've mentioned before, success in 3DMark05 is highly CPU-bound. Given the sheer performance of the Ryzen 9 5950X pushed to 6100 MHz, it's no wonder that right after taking first place with three R9 290X cards, OGS secured another gold with two RTX 3090s.
Besides topping the dual-RTX 3090 category, OGS also claimed the absolute first place among all dual-GPU configurations. The 3DMark05 benchmark has seen a major resurgence since the debut of Zen 3 processors.
The CPU was cooled with liquid nitrogen, while the graphics cards relied on stock air coolers. GPU clocks for both cards sat at 1860 MHz, and the GDDR6X memory ran at an effective 19,504 MHz. This dual-RTX 3090 and Ryzen 9 5950X combo was run on an ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero motherboard.
Here is a look at the test bench:
